Weekly gains in global oil prices…and Brent crude up 4.8%

Oil prices in global markets posted weekly gains, with Brent crude, the international benchmark, registering around 4.8% and 4.5% for US West Texas Intermediate crude.

Brent crude futures settled at $91.17 a barrel and US West Texas Intermediate crude futures settled at $86.91 a barrel as prices rose more than a dollar a barrel on Friday.

The “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” announced in a statement released early Saturday that it had targeted Israeli oil refineries in Haifa.



He said in the statement: “The Mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq targeted oil refineries in Haifa in our occupied territories in the early hours of Saturday, April 6, 2024.”

“It continues to destroy enemy strongholds at the end of the second phase of operations to resist the occupation, support Gaza and respond to Zionist massacres against defenseless Palestinian civilians,” it said in its statement.

Insurgent units in Iraq have responded to the Israeli devastation in the Gaza Strip by claiming responsibility for bombing areas in Israel and US bases in Syria and Iraq.

The factions also warned the United States of increasing the number of armed operations in response to “Washington's continued military aid to the Israeli army, which is killing civilians in the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon.”
