Putin’s visit to North Korea comes nine months after receiving the North Korean leader in the Russian Far East. During the visit, the two exchanged compliments, but they did not officially announce that an agreement had been reached.
The meeting between Putin and Kim began with a ceremony in the capital, before the meeting expanded to include ministers and officials from both countries, the Kremlin said in a statement.
In statements during the open part of the meeting, Putin “stressed the strong friendship between the two countries and the principles of equality and mutual respect for each other.”
“He expressed his appreciation for North Korea’s continued and steadfast support of Russian policy, including the issue of Ukraine, and I refer here to our struggle against the hegemonic and expansionist policy that the United States and its allies have been trying to impose on Russia for years.”
In turn, Kim emphasized the importance of his meeting with Putin: “The relations between our two countries have entered a period of high development and are of strategic importance.”
