One in 3 Democrats believe Biden should drop out of the presidential race

“One in three Democratic voters believe U.S. President Joe Biden should drop out of the presidential race after last week’s debate with Republican nominee Donald Trump,” a Reuters/Ipsos poll out today found. According to the poll, Democrats would pick Biden over Trump in a hypothetical election.

The poll, conducted over two days, found Trump (age 78) and Biden (age 81) maintaining 40 percent support among registered voters, indicating that Biden has not lost his popularity since the debate. The election will be held on November 5.

Among the names of top Democrats the poll provided to its participants, only former Democratic President Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle Obama, outscored Biden, who led Trump 50 percent to 39 percent in hypothetical polls.

Michelle Obama has said many times that she does not want to run for president.

About 32 percent of Democrats in the poll said Biden should drop his re-election bid. Much of the debate was floundering and he was unsuccessful in countering Trump’s attacks, which included several false accusations.

Vice President Kamala Harris trailed Trump by one percentage point, 42 percent to 43 percent, within the poll’s odd 3.5 percent margin of error, making Harris’ performance statistically as strong as Biden’s.

However, 59 percent of Democrats think Biden is too old to serve in government, similar to what a poll concluded last January.

The poll was conducted online and included 1,070 age-eligible Americans nationwide.
